The Ride To The Rink - Celebrating Family and Hockey: Happy 4th of July and Canada Day!

Welcome to a special holiday edition of "The Ride To The Rink" with Lee Elias! As we celebrate the 4th of July and reflect on Canada Day, Lee emphasizes the importance of family time during these festive occasions.

In this brief but heartfelt episode, Lee reminds us that:

  • Family Time is Precious: Whether it’s family dinners, holidays, or just spending time together, being with your loved ones is invaluable.
  • Family Dynamics in Hockey: The way you interact with your family can reflect on how you function within a hockey team. Coaches observe family dynamics when considering players for higher levels.
  • Expressing Gratitude: Take a moment to thank your parents, guardians, and loved ones for their support and dedication. A simple acknowledgment can mean the world to them.
  • Mindset Matters: Approach holidays and days off with a positive mindset, looking for opportunities to connect and appreciate your family.

Lee encourages all young hockey players to use these holidays to strengthen their family bonds, which in turn, will help them thrive within their hockey families.

Tune in for a quick yet meaningful episode that highlights the essence of family both on and off the ice. Happy 4th of July and Canada Day from "Our Kids Play Hockey"!

00:00:08.050 --> 00:00:12.795
Hello hockey skaters and goalies around the world, and welcome to another edition of Our Kids Play Hockey.

00:00:12.795 --> 00:00:15.567
You know this is coming out on July 4th.

00:00:15.567 --> 00:00:17.812
I don't usually date these episodes, but there's a point.

00:00:17.812 --> 00:00:22.132
So it's the 4th of July, it's America's birthday, Canada Day just happened as well.

00:00:22.132 --> 00:00:43.082
I think it's really important at these times of years and this is like a holiday, generic episode, even though I'm recording it for the 4th to remind you that time with your family is insanely important, Whether it's family dinners every night or the ability to be off from camp, off from school, and to spend time with your parents, your grandparents, your loved ones, even your friends and cousins.

00:00:43.082 --> 00:01:03.287
That time is so important and I know that for some families this comes a lot easier than others, but for the most part, my friends, I think it's really important to acknowledge that, especially for your parents and your guardians, you being around and being good and having a good time with them means more to them, means more to adults than we typically let on right.

00:01:03.287 --> 00:01:06.875
And the aspect of family is everything right.

00:01:06.875 --> 00:01:11.671
And when you think about a hockey team and how this applies to a hockey team, hockey teams are a family.

00:01:11.671 --> 00:01:16.052
There's no better place to practice being a family than in your actual family.

00:01:16.052 --> 00:01:20.271
And if you look at your families and you look at these days off as kind of a drag, I get it.

00:01:20.271 --> 00:01:22.629
I remember having some years like that in my life as well.

00:01:22.629 --> 00:01:26.790
But I'm going to tell you this right now A lot of it just comes down to your mindset and how you enter the day.

00:01:26.790 --> 00:01:29.528
So days off from school always exciting.

00:01:29.528 --> 00:01:33.662
Days off from camp Not as exciting, but always good, but it's important.

00:01:33.742 --> 00:01:38.563
On this holiday season the July 4th, the Canada Days you spend time with your family.

00:01:38.563 --> 00:01:39.789
Acknowledge your parents.

00:01:39.789 --> 00:01:40.965
Tell them that you're thankful for them.

00:01:40.965 --> 00:01:41.926
Tell them that you're thankful for them.

00:01:41.926 --> 00:01:44.728
Tell them that you appreciate everything that they do for you, that you're looking forward to the season.

00:01:44.728 --> 00:01:47.350
Little things like that go a far, far, far away.

00:01:47.350 --> 00:01:50.674
And again, don't look at a holiday or a day off.

00:01:50.674 --> 00:01:57.740
Just as I don't have to do my normal things today, Take a moment and acknowledge the people that care about you and make sure that you enjoy the time with them.

00:01:57.740 --> 00:02:00.125
Even maybe ask how can we spend some time together?

00:02:00.125 --> 00:02:01.587
And again, look, people are busy.

00:02:01.587 --> 00:02:08.449
You're July 4th, You're a candidate, you might not be playing out this way and that's okay, but look for the opportunities to be part of a great family.

00:02:08.449 --> 00:02:10.728
I promise you that will go so much further than you think.

00:02:10.728 --> 00:02:17.170
And when we get to the top levels, when we get to the college levels and the pro levels, as coaches, we look at you and your family.

00:02:17.170 --> 00:02:20.703
We look at how you treat each other.

00:02:20.703 --> 00:02:25.387
We look at how that family dynamic runs, because we're trying to bring in our family as a hockey team.

00:02:25.567 --> 00:02:29.009
So once again, happy July 4th, Happy Canada Day.

00:02:29.009 --> 00:02:32.212
Make sure you enjoy this time with your families, Enjoy this day.

00:02:32.212 --> 00:02:41.504
This will be a short episode today for that reason, but if you take anything away, just go up to your parents, go up to your guardians, go up to your family and just tell them how much you enjoy these days off.

00:02:41.504 --> 00:02:43.549
All right, that's going to be it for this Ride to the Rink.

00:02:43.549 --> 00:02:44.290
A quick one today.

00:02:44.290 --> 00:02:46.193
Happy Canada Day, Happy 4th of July.

00:02:46.193 --> 00:02:47.525
We'll see you on the next Ride to the Rink.

00:02:47.525 --> 00:02:50.349
Remember all the episodes available on ourkidsplayhockeycom.

00:02:50.349 --> 00:02:53.508
