The Ride To The Rink - Never Let Anyone Tell You Your Dreams Aren't Possible

Dreams: we all have them, and there always seems to be someone trying to shut them down on us.

If you're willing to commit, work hard, and persist, nobody, absolutely no one, has the right to tell you that you can't make it. On this week's episode, we talk about the significance of self-belief, resilience, and undying grit in the journey of chasing your dreams, be it in hockey or any part of life.

Throughout this episode, we'll share inspiring stories of those who were told they couldn't make it but defied all odds, like the legendary Michael Jordan. We delve into how to navigate the inevitable hurdles and rejections that come your way with unwavering faith in your capabilities. We'll discuss why the internal dialogue you have with yourself plays a monumental role in your journey to success, and how you should push back against any negative voices that tell you otherwise.

We also leave you with a task -  write down 5-10 big, ambitious goals you want to accomplish in the next decade and send them in. We want to know what your goals are so we can be some of your biggest supporters!

00:00:08.070 --> 00:00:11.955
Hello hockey skaters and goalies around the world, and welcome to another edition of the ride to the rank.

00:00:11.955 --> 00:00:16.643
I'm Leo Elias with Mike Binelli here, and we've got a topic you're going to love and we're pretty passionate about it.

00:00:16.643 --> 00:00:21.230
Don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't make it.

00:00:21.230 --> 00:00:26.551
Don't ever let anyone tell you that you have every right to pursue your dream.

00:00:26.551 --> 00:00:32.292
Now, with that said, it's very, very, very, very hard to accomplish a dream.

00:00:32.292 --> 00:00:33.765
I'm not just talking hockey.

00:00:33.765 --> 00:00:35.747
If you have dreams in anything, it's very hard.

00:00:35.747 --> 00:00:40.450
You have to put the work in, you have to put the time in, you have to have some talent, you have to develop that talent.

00:00:40.450 --> 00:00:43.929
There's a lot of factors that go into you quote unquote making it.

00:00:43.929 --> 00:00:51.545
But if anybody ever looks at you and says, hey, you kids, you'll never make the NHL, you know you're never going to make the NHL, I'll never say that to you.

00:00:51.545 --> 00:00:52.725
Mike's never going to say that to you.

00:00:52.725 --> 00:01:03.511
It's very hard to make the NHL, but you have every right to pursue your dream to the maximum ability, with the understanding that there's no guarantees.

00:01:03.511 --> 00:01:05.685
That's the other half of it, right.

00:01:05.685 --> 00:01:08.888
But don't ever let anybody tell you that you can't make it.

00:01:08.888 --> 00:01:09.804
Mike, your thoughts on this?

00:01:10.581 --> 00:01:16.364
Yeah, just, whatever your dream is, you know, find the path that you want to take and then you need to drive it.

00:01:16.364 --> 00:01:21.903
I think what happens is you know you can't, as a player, sit there and expect a coach to drive your dream.

00:01:21.903 --> 00:01:26.724
You need to know that coach is saying, hey, listen, your dream is not my dream, it's not a reality.

00:01:26.724 --> 00:01:28.445
You can't do what you think you're going to do.

00:01:28.445 --> 00:01:40.152
Then either defy that coach, find a way to you know, to build your own path, but don't settle for somebody else that doesn't know you telling you what you can do and what you can't do.

00:01:40.152 --> 00:01:42.774
I mean, there's certain things that you maybe you can't do because of.

00:01:42.774 --> 00:01:54.802
You know, whatever the circumstances are your size, your weight, your athletic ability, your time that you can get to a certain event, your location, your proximity to talent, but you can if you want.

00:01:54.802 --> 00:02:07.587
Listen, there's many, many, many examples in history of individuals that thought they couldn't do something, or that somebody told them they couldn't do something and they did it because they found a way to do it.

00:02:07.587 --> 00:02:13.259
And if you really want to find a way to do it, don't let somebody tell you you're not able to get somewhere because of where you are.

00:02:13.259 --> 00:02:18.243
At nine years old, a 10 years old or 15, 15 years old, you can drive that.

00:02:18.243 --> 00:02:19.288
There's no doubt about it.

00:02:19.288 --> 00:02:25.372
It's not a motivational you know, you know concept, you can do it.

00:02:25.372 --> 00:02:29.168
There's a reason why that is in the mantra of so many different.

00:02:29.168 --> 00:02:30.451
You know great athletes.

00:02:30.451 --> 00:02:33.108
If you believe it, you can be it, and that's true.

00:02:33.108 --> 00:02:35.346
And that's, and that's, the first hurdle that you need to take.

00:02:35.346 --> 00:02:37.344
Don't let somebody else tell you can't get somewhere.

00:02:38.127 --> 00:02:43.067
Yeah, our producer Caitlin always says thoughts become things, and I think she's 100% right with that.

00:02:43.067 --> 00:02:44.164
And look, here's some examples.

00:02:44.164 --> 00:02:45.847
And again, people who said you couldn't make it.

00:02:45.847 --> 00:02:54.526
Michael Jordan, who is the greatest basketball history in the history of the NBA if you want to debate that, feel free to email us didn't make his high school varsity team one year.

00:02:54.526 --> 00:02:56.442
They told him he wouldn't make it and he did.

00:02:56.442 --> 00:03:01.591
And there's countless examples of athletes being told they couldn't make it and they did.

00:03:01.591 --> 00:03:03.477
Now I will tell everyone this.

00:03:03.477 --> 00:03:11.390
All right, a little bit of a warning for the wise here the farther you go, the more people will tell you that you can't make it.

00:03:11.390 --> 00:03:16.070
The harder it gets, the more people will tell you that you can't make it.

00:03:16.070 --> 00:03:17.163
That's part of the journey.

00:03:17.163 --> 00:03:26.468
My advice to all of you listening is when anybody tells you that you can't make it, you don't have to argue back, you don't have to even say anything, but it should motivate you.

00:03:26.468 --> 00:03:30.968
There should be a little voice in your head that just goes but why can't I make it?

00:03:30.968 --> 00:03:32.612
Why can't I make it?

00:03:32.612 --> 00:03:37.161
Or what else do I need to do to prove to myself that I can make it Again?

00:03:37.161 --> 00:03:45.233
Understanding you still might not, but the pursuit of your dream is always, always a worthy goal.

00:03:45.233 --> 00:03:51.926
You deserve that for yourself and you deserve that for your future, because you will learn how to strive for the things you want.

00:03:51.926 --> 00:03:59.128
But just remember, along the way, there will be more and more people, the closer you get that will tell you hey, you can't make it, you're never going to make it.

00:03:59.128 --> 00:04:01.167
Nobody ever makes it right.

00:04:01.167 --> 00:04:07.044
But be curious, my friends listening, be curious about what Mike said, the things you can do to make it.

00:04:07.044 --> 00:04:09.567
What am I not doing to make it?

00:04:09.567 --> 00:04:19.548
If you really want to make it, if you're being honest with yourself that I want to make this happen, you also got to ask yourself those questions Well, what do I need to do to make these things happen?

00:04:19.548 --> 00:04:22.346
Because having the dream is not enough.

00:04:22.346 --> 00:04:24.685
It is worthy to have a dream.

00:04:24.685 --> 00:04:26.250
I'm telling you that right now.

00:04:26.250 --> 00:04:27.502
I started the episode off with that.

00:04:27.502 --> 00:04:29.891
But that's not enough to get you there.

00:04:29.891 --> 00:04:38.646
You got to put in the hard work, you got to have the dedication in some forms of session, without sacrificing who you are as a human being, to make that happen.

00:04:38.646 --> 00:04:43.389
So this is Mike and I again telling you all pursue your dreams.

00:04:43.389 --> 00:04:48.744
Do not ever let a coach, a teammate, a parent, a fan.

00:04:49.946 --> 00:04:51.750
The Internet self, your inner self.

00:04:51.750 --> 00:04:55.398
Don't let yourself, don't talk yourself out of succeeding.

00:04:55.398 --> 00:05:11.499
Yeah, don't let your, don't let your doubts they creep in and find ways, whether you're journaling, whether you're meditating, whether you're self reflecting, whether you know what are you, what are you doing as an individual athlete that doesn't talk themselves out of success and that is really you know.

00:05:11.499 --> 00:05:13.492
You control all of that.

00:05:13.492 --> 00:05:19.031
You control all the aspects of your development and your Motivation and your discipline.

00:05:19.031 --> 00:05:34.072
If you, but if you allow your inner self to start to creep in and be like you know what, maybe they're right, maybe I can't do it, or well, maybe this is hard, or maybe I shouldn't be doing this, then you know if that's, if that's the path they're gonna go on to mentally, that's where you will go you.

00:05:34.072 --> 00:05:36.158
It will lead you down that path, no doubt about it.

00:05:36.526 --> 00:05:36.947
Absolutely.

00:05:36.947 --> 00:05:39.175
Your internal dialogue is very important.

00:05:39.175 --> 00:05:46.264
And then being able to even capture Mike to your point, I'm saying something negative about myself and saying, hey, that thought needs to go away.

00:05:46.264 --> 00:05:47.490
That's a power.

00:05:47.490 --> 00:05:51.045
Okay, real quick, actionable item for you on the way out of this episode.

00:05:51.045 --> 00:05:52.612
I challenge all of you listening.

00:05:52.612 --> 00:05:57.254
This has been statistically proven to help people accomplish the goals and their dreams.

00:05:57.254 --> 00:06:05.045
I want you to write out five to ten Big, lofty goals that you want to accomplish in the next ten years of your life.

00:06:05.045 --> 00:06:08.985
I don't care if you're six years old or sixteen years old or 56 years old.

00:06:08.985 --> 00:06:14.264
I want you to write out ten, five to ten things you want to accomplish and I want you to dream away.

00:06:14.264 --> 00:06:19.778
I want you to write down things that you think you can accomplish that but you know people are like you can't do that.

00:06:19.778 --> 00:06:24.449
Write them down at minimum and, if you're willing, send them to us.

00:06:24.449 --> 00:06:26.237
Have your parents email us or you email us.

00:06:26.237 --> 00:06:27.723
Team at our kids play hockey.

00:06:27.723 --> 00:06:28.024
Comm.

00:06:28.024 --> 00:06:32.185
We will not share them with any names unless you tell us to, but I want to hear your dreams.

00:06:32.185 --> 00:06:37.648
I generally want to hear what your dreams are and I want to support you on your pursue those dreams, and so does Mike.

00:06:37.648 --> 00:06:40.793
That's gonna do it for this episode of the ride to the rink.

00:06:40.793 --> 00:06:43.593
Don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't make it.

00:06:43.593 --> 00:06:44.636
You got to believe in yourself.

00:06:44.636 --> 00:06:47.649
With that said, see you in the next episode, skater.
